period/birth control issues

Posted by [info]antiochwhore in [info]vaginapagina on 2009.07.17 at 01:17
Hey there.

I posted here a few weeks ago, not sure if anyone remembers. Anyway, here is the rundown:

About five weeks ago, I got my period as normal. Everything was fine. Two weeks after that, I had sex with my boyfriend. No condom involved, since we're in a 3 year relationship. We just simply.. don't use them. And just to make this clear, I had never missed a pill or had taken them too late. I'm always perfect about the timing and not missing. Anyway, two days later, I got my period again. Before we had sex, it had been quite a while, a month or more. But I didn't know why I was bleeding again, so my doctor made me switch pills. I had been taking Microgestin (the generic) already for a year or so, and she wanted me to switch to the brand version, Loestrin immediately. So that's what I've been on for the past, now, four weeks. On Monday (this past one), I bled a little, but it never turned into a full period, and it only lasted for about an hour or so. I told my doctor and she said that was great news and that means the Loestrin is working. I told her I was two days away from my sugar pills, and she said that's great, it should be coming because of where I was in my pill pack. Well it has not come yet. I keep feeling like it's coming, like.. the same way it always feels when it's about to come, I put on a pad and everything, but it just.. isn't coming and it's so irritating! I even feel moody and have been getting upset, which I figure is PMS. I'm worried. I don't know WHEN my period is even supposed to come now since I had two periods in the same month last month AND switched pills during that time. Just to make it extra clear, I did not stop my birth control between switching pills. I literally went straight from the Microgestin (I was on the second day, second row on the pack), to the Loestrin (first pill in the new pack).

I'm now going to be on the third day of sugar pills starting tomorrow night (Friday). Also, when I took my pill tonight, it basically turned into mush in my mouth.. I put it in and it felt just like.. dissolved mush. I think it's because it was so hot today and my pills were in my purse, but I don't know. Should I take my next sugar pill to be safe? Or am I okay? Because it was definitely in my mouth, I tasted it, but I didn't feel the pill go down like it normally does. I just tasted this pill mush.

Help to either of these concerns, or both, would be great. And I can clarify whatever you need me to clarify. I'm tired right now and hopefully made some sense.

Thank you!

Birth Control Pill / Surgery?

Posted by [info]mercedesmackay in [info]vaginapagina on 2009.07.17 at 00:15

Hi everyone, first time poster here. Sorry if this is off-topic?

I am scheduled for minor daycare surgery on Sept. 3rd, (for my foot.. long story short, I broke it last september and had 2 surgeries, one included inserting a screw in my foot.. and now I am having surgery to remove it) and I was reading through the pamphlet thing about what to do to prepare/what to expect etc. - I came accros a list of medications/foods to discontinue prior to surgery, and Oral Contraceptives was amoungst them. It says to discontinue a month before surgery to prevent bloodclotting, especially in those over 35 (I am only 20).

Is it REALLY necessary to go off the pill for a whole month just for the (minor) surgery? Of course I plan on asking my orthopedic surgeon about it, but I am just wondering what you ladies thought. I've had 3 other surgeries total in my life (wisdom teeth, 2 for my foot), and never had a problem with it/never knew anything about it before. Mind you, the 2 surgeries for my foot were emergeny and unplanned. Hmm.

Just curious.

Or I got a trim, anyway. :D

This was an episode of one of the TV shows with short horror stories. A couple was inviting homeless people into their house (maybe it was a restaurant they owned?) and giving them food, but it they were actually poisoning the food. They believed that they were ending the homeless people's suffering by killing them. I forget what happened to the couple at the end. I don't exactly have an urge to watch it again; I just happened to remember it and am curious if anyone knows what show it was.

And as the spotlights fade away.

19) Super In The City by Daphne Uviller

One of my best friends sent this book to me in the mall while she was vacationing in the lovely state of Montana. All she said was "READ THIS NOW". Super In the City is one of those good chick lit books that really make you laugh and want to write down half of what the main character is thinking because all you can think about is "Yes! That's exactly how it feels!" It was a bit more sexual than I would have liked but at least it was more tasteful then other books I've read. Uviller's storytelling reminds me of Meg Cabot's adult books, characters that are easy to relate to, cad like men, that charming asshole women can't help but fawn over and a good mystery to keep you wondering what's happening next.

I remember like..back quite a few years playing this game where you had to trap a ball (?) in an area and capture all the balls without them hitting your line first...I think it was a windows or dos game..probably originally with windows 95 or something
I think there were red and blue balls and you had to sort them or something?

Edit- found - it was Jezzball

Hello all! I'm looking for the title of a French movie, from the 60's I think, that had a lovely young female lead. I thought the title was something like "Paranoia" or "Hysteria" but Googling those yields nothing.

It's basically about a single French girl going utterly crazy in her apartment. There's a scene where she cuts off a man's ear by accident in the salon where she works. Another where she purchases a horse fetus to eat but lets it go bad. A lot of loud banging on her door and her being terrified.

Help meeee! Please!

Books Six through Twenty-Eight

Posted by [info]sejdb in [info]50bookchallenge on 2009.07.16 at 21:53
Books Six through nineteen were mangas of Fullmetal Alchemist. A great comic with amazing characters and great story. Highly recommended.

20. Tea: Addiction, Exploitation, and Empire (Hardcover by Roy Moxham.

A very interesting look at the history of Tea and how it came to Europe, and, specifically effected Great Britain, India, China, and the rest of the world. It almost makes you not want to drink tea. The author actually ran a tea plantation in Africa during the 1960s and I would have liked to know how his experience there turned out.

21. iWoz by Steve Wozniak and Gina Smith

The autobiography of Steve Wozniak, who designed and invented the Apple 1 and the Apple II computers that started Apple Comptuers. His life is interesting and he goes into all kinds of details about his pranks, phone phreaking, working for HP, starting up Apple, his life in general. A fun and fast read- much recommended for anyone into technology, Apple, or computers.

22. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes by Anita Loos

One of the most infamous books of the 1920s but a novel that is still current. It’s about woman, named Lorelei Lee, who travels through life in a breezy way just existing moment to moment. A fun book- it’s rather like reading many blogs the way it talks about what happens. Highly recommended.

23. Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens

A reread from when I was really small. I admire Dickens’s prose style and the way he makes characters. The characters are much better than the plot, but you can’t fault Dickens for that since this was only his fourth book. The ending is a bit predictable, but it is satisfying.

24. Public Enemies by Bryan Burrough

A great read about the most infamous bank robbers of American History: Bonnie and Clyde, John Dillinger, Pretty Boy Floyd, The Barker Gang, Alvin Karpis and Baby Face Nelson. The book follows all of these infamous folk heroes in the peak of their careers and how the FBI rose to prominence thanks to their exploits. John Dillinger I liked, Alvin Karpis too- I wanted him to get away...the others, not so much. And I didn’t realize how much cross-country travel these folks all did and how many times they came to Reno and were all over Nevada. There’s a story or two in all that.

25. Beggars of Life by Jim Tully

An fascinating autobiography of a neglected writer. Jim Tully was famous before WWII and he wrote novels, biographies, and press releases for Hollywood actors for twenty years. Beggars of Life is the first book of his autobiography that describes his life on the road as a tramp during the 1900s. An exciting and well-written book worth reading.

26. Edgeworks Vol. 3 (The Harlan Ellison Hornbook & Harlan Ellison's Movie) by Harlan Ellison

Really two books in one: the first part are reprints of a column Ellison did in the 1970s for a couple different publications. Great stuff- funny, witty, urbane and perfect. So many great columns to mention- but I thought the series where he talks about his college days at Ohio State to be the best ones.

Harlan Ellison's Movie is the script for a spec movie Harlan was given to write a movie he wanted to, without limitations. It couldn't be made in the 70s and I doubt it could be made now. About a liberal hippie type who inherits a bank and decides to fight the system with the system. Amazing ending.

27. New York Giants: An Informal History of a Great Baseball Club by Frank Graham

I've been a Giants fan since 1988- and I know a lot about them. Graham's book is a great team history and talks about some of the best teams ever in baseball. This book only covers the Giants's history up through 1952, so it doesn't talk about the last Giant victory in the World Series, the move to San Francisco and forward. It does cover the origins of the team, the time of John McGraw from 1902 to 1933 (I'd read a book about McGraw for sure- he sounds like a hell of a guy) and his successors. It's well written and clearly stated and it explains Leo Durocher's quote of "last guys finish last"- he didn't say that exactly, but that's what he meant. Recommended to people who like baseball history or Giants fans.

28. A Day in the Bleachers by Arnold Hano

A piece of New Journalism written ten years before the term. Hano went to the first game of the 1954 World Series of the New York Giants versus the Cleveland Indians and described his entire day, before and during his six hours watching the game in the Polo Grounds's centerfield bleachers. And, he describes Willie Mays's amazing catch against Vic Wertz so well, that it's like you saw it yourself. Amazing writing with many, many quotable passages- it's so good that I'd recommend it to anyone who likes great writing, journalism, history, oral history or baseball.

So I never thought to be concerned about this.

I'll try not to ramble, but regardless leave my vagina history under a cut. )

Thanks to anyone who knows what I'm talking about and can help.

What is the website that lets you search old archived things from the internet that are now taken down? It was like waybackmachine but not for specific urls, more like a google search of old things.

Thanks!

Pu$$y Problems?

Has anyone else's partnet made them feel so self concious about recieving oral sex that they refuse to recieve it? My fiance SAYS he loves giving oral sex, but every time we do it he gives me crap about how I "smell" nomatter how I wash in the shower, or freshen up. It's seemed such a hassle and embarassment that I just don't let him do it anymore. And it's always been something i've been self concious about, he's just made it worse. Now that we want to add another girl for a threesome, and I just am SUPER excited about it, since i'm bi and it's all the female attention I can have, i'm worried about it now. What can I do?

Terrible CGA adventure game from the 80s

I honestly don't know why I'm wondering about this. I guess I'm on a strange bad-videogames-my-parents-bought-me-as-a-kid nostalgia trip.

This particular game was one of those text-command adventure games that gave you a really crappy looking CGA line drawing of the room you were supposed to be in. The only things I remember about it were that it booted up from its own 5.25" floppy that I think was copy-protected, and that if you swore in the game it sent you to some inescapable underworld of mirrors. Oh, and that it was buggy as all heck (you could put items down in a room, but who knows if they'd still be there if you left and came back).

I'm afraid it was some small indie development that got lost in time, but just in case. Does this ring a bell for anyone?

Baka-Updates Manga Summary:

Nai searches for someone important to him, with only an abandoned bracelet as a clue. Gareki steals and pick-pockets to get by from day to day. The two meet in a strange mansion where they are set-up, and soon become wanted criminals by military security operatives. When Nai and Gareki find themselves desperate in a hopeless predicament, they encounter none other than the country's most powerful defense organization - "Circus"!!

My Review:

It was hard not to be drawn to this art style. It walks a line between cutesy and gorgeous! And Nai is adorable, and we meet him first. By the time I got to the cool Gareki, it was a done deal.

As for the story...very intriguing, especially Karoku and Nai's story.

One of the best things is the characters though. I love them all! Circus is hilarious and brilliant.

Nai's naivety lends to many amusing moments, and Gareki, despite trying to maintain his cool and badass attitude, has his own funny moments. XP

Yogi of the circus is one of my favorite characters. He's the biggest comic relief, and he makes everything awesome (and sparkly, haha)!

...Oh, and you cannot forget the sheep! Hilarious little things, for being computers.

I can't wait to read more of this fabulous manga.

A very long time ago, I remember a horror, possibly vampire related movie (I'm pretty sure it was a movie) on the SciFi channel. The only scene I can remember is this guy lying in bed, pulling what looked like black hairs out of his arm. The hairs wiggled and bled when he squished them.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Wikipedia Summary (includes spoilers):

The seven-year-old boy Monkey D. Luffy tries to join the pirate crew of the "Red-Haired" Shanks, but is rejected for being too young. Accidentally, he eats the Gum-Gum Fruit, which gives his body the properties of rubber and makes him unable to swim. When Shanks loses an arm to a sea monster while saving him, Luffy realizes his own weakness to the dangers of a pirate's life and gives up on joining Shanks' crew. Instead, he vows one day to surpass Shanks, to build up a crew of his own, and to become the next King of the Pirates. Ten years later, he sets out to sea, where he frees the young boy Koby from a slave's life in the pirate crew of Alvida, and saves Roronoa Zoro from being executed by the axe-armed Navy Captain Morgan and his son Helmeppo. With Zoro as his first crewman, he sets sail for the Grand Line, the sea where One Piece is supposedly hidden, and makes the acquaintance of the thief and expert navigator Nami.

My Review:

This is a reread, but it feels like the first time! One Piece is just so amazing. The thing about rereads is, you have a new understanding and insight into the things that happen, and you can even catch hints of things that influenced the future.

About the art: I remember when I first heard of One Piece, I was leery about trying it out because I thought the art was weird. Now? I can't understand why/believe that I even hesitated! The art gets better and better, and really grows on you.

Yeastybutt Help

Posted by [info]frolicnaked in [info]vaginapagina on 2009.07.16 at 16:24
I was on antibiotics a couple of weeks ago, and quite predictably, developed the Yeast Infection That Would Not Die.

Normally, I would have treated with boric acid, and that would be the end of things. However, I'm in Michigan with my family; my boric acid is home in Arizona. The store where I bought the boric acid? Does not exist in this state. No pharmacy I've gone to (Target, Meijer, Kroger, Walgreens, CVS, Rite-Aid) stocks it.

Also, yogurt is not working; garlic is not working; apple cider vinegar is not working; Monistat is not working. (This is pretty typical for my yeast infections, especially ones that have such an obvious cause as antibiotics.)

Also also, the infection has spread from my vulva to my perineum to the outside of my anus. Fun times.

So, two questions:

1) Anyone know where in Michigan (east side metro Detroit) I can buy boric acid? At this point, purchasing it over the Internet may not be the best option since the boric acid may not arrive until I fly back.

2) Is there a way to use boric acid topically on my butt to get rid of the itching there? There is a part of me that desperately wants to make a boric acid paste, but I think that may end poorly. So I'm wondering if mixing up the solution form of it and washing/wiping/dribbling/whatever it across my arse will do any good.

Thanks!
